Burglary Bust Lands Man Back in Jail, Sends 2 Teens to Juvy

Cops recover stolen gun, safe and computer.

A burglary victim led police to three suspects who he claims broke into and ransacked his Livermore residence on Wednesday. The victim said he hid during the incident, allowing the burglars to think his house was empty.

Brent Hicks, 22, and two juveniles, 15 and 16 years old, all from Livermore, were arrested at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after a mini-standoff with cops at one of the teen's homes in the 500 block of Cedar Drive, said the .

Hicks, in custody at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, was to appear in court Friday for arraignment on the burglary charge and to possibly have his probation revoked by the District Attorney's Office, according to court records.

Police responded to a 911 call from the burglary victim, who told authorities he was outside a Cedar Drive house where the three alleged burglars fled after breaking into his home earlier that day, Lt. Matt Sarsfield said.

The 18-year-old victim, whom police did not identify, said he was home alone at about 1 p.m. when he heard the suspects -- one of whom he recognized -- breaking into his residence in the 2600 block of Kelly Street, Sarsfield said.

The individual hid, allowing the suspects to think no one was home while they carted off computer gear and a safe that contained an undisclosed amount of cash, he said.

Police cordoned off the Cedar Street home after the suspects inside repeatedly refused to come out, Sarsfield said.

"They were not cooperative," he said.

After eventually gaining access, police searched the property and recovered the items reportedly belonging to the Kelly Street man, along with a revolver that was reported stolen earlier in the year from an individual in Newark, Sarsfield said.

Police transported Hicks to jail, and the minors to Juvenile Hall in San Leandro, Sarsfield said.

Hicks was previously arrested in March 2010 by Livermore police on drug charges, according to Alameda County Sheriff's Office records.

One of the teen's mothers was also present at the Cedar Street home, but was neither charged nor arrested, Sarsfield said.
