UPDATE: Boy Riding Skateboard Dies After Collision With Truck

A boy that was rushed to a hospital after a collision at the intersection of Kara Place and Lomitas Avenue, near Concannon Boulevard, has died, police said.

A 13-year-old boy riding a skateboard died Tuesday after a collision with a truck, Livermore Police Sgt. John Hurd said.

The fatal collision occured around 5:20 p.m. near the intersection of Kara Place and Lomitas Avenue, near Concannon Boulevard.

The boy was identified as Livermore-resident Nathan William Strube by the
Alameda County coroner's bureau.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that Nathan was riding his skateboard northbound on Kara Place and was turning to westbound Lomitas Avenue when he struck the side of a pickup truck that was pulling a landscape-type trailer eastbound on Lomitas Avenue.

Police, who interviewed the driver and witnesses, continue to investigate the collision and said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved in the incident. Nathan was wearing a helmet, Hurd said.

When emergency crews arrived on scene they initially called for a helicopter to transport the boy, who was suffering from major injuries, according to reports heard on a police scanner.

It appeared the helicopter was called off and an ambulance rushed Nathan to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Livermore Police Department Traffic Unit at 925-371-4850.

Livermore Patch will update this story as more information is made available.

This is just so incomprehensible that you would even send this message. May you find peace somewhere in your soul.

Really Sandy? Your commentary is inappropriate at this time. Who cares how many times you've warned kids, that is not relevant at this point. "Please keep a closer ey on them"????? Is your heart that cold? I'm glad you held your son...I wish you would have withheld your words.

I am so sorry Mrs. Azevedo, I thought about both boys all night long. I live next to where the accident happened and was there shortly after it happened. Please know that your son was with loving people just after Nate was hit. They tried to console him but I could see how shaken he was. My heart aches for both boys and their families. I didn't know Nate but I have heard wonderful things about him and I am deeply saddened for the loss in our community. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your son and Nate's family.

How beautiful it was to see the sea of blue shirts at the school today in hohor of Nate. What an awesome tribute that the kids arranged all on their own. Nate is deeply missed!

Nate and his family live 2 doors down from my family, we have only been here for 3 years but ever since the first time he rode up on his scooter with his adorable big smile, right after we moved in, my daughter was outside playing so he introduced himself with a friend(Jacob) i thought what a sweet little kid. I've watched him grow for 3 years now and it breaks my heart. For his family my deepest sympathy. The Cannizzaros 1079 Canton Ave

I would like to clear up the fact that people seem to think that Nathan was hit by the landscaping truck. I am close to the man who was driving and he did not hit Nathan and he also was not speeding. Nathan, hit the right rear end of the truck and also hit the trailer the truck had. It was unfortunate what happened to him but it was nobody's fault. It was simply an accident

Hi mary... yeah, blue was his favorite color, so a ton of kids were wearing blue and black at school today.. everyone is just constantly crying, hugging, or still in shock...

It is such a tragedy. I'm 52, and if my life had ended when I was 13, think of all I'd have missed. Highschool, college, marriage, children of my own, grandchildren. It is such a loss.

I am shocked to hear of the tragic accident. I was a teacher at the after school program at Sunset Elementary when Nate and Cal went there. Nate was a wonderful older brother to Cal when he joined us in Kindergarten. Nate had a very cool sense of humor and was a lovely kid. My heart goes out to the family. May his soul rest in peace. To the Strube family and loved ones, I only remember Nate as a 4th grader passing through my science lab class at Sunset. In just a short time, he made a great impression on me as being a bright, thoughtful boy with lots of energy! May all of the positive words and thoughts from your family, friends and neighbors bring you some peace to carry you through. My love to Calvin as I knew him as a wild and crazy 1st grader!! Best wishes to you all- Mrs. Bailey

When I pulled up my first reaction was to gather Jacob and Nathan and tell them it was going to be okay. I wanted to comfort these precious boys, protect them and take away their pain. Instead there were already neighbors and others stepping up and providing help. To the Strube family, I am sending love and strength. Thank you for sharing your beautiful boy and my family is grateful that Nathan crossed our path and we knew him. To the Azevedo family we are also sending our love. I am deeply sadden and I truly hope that Nathan's memories will bring some sort of comfort to those who have crossed his path. Jennifer Kolling

We are feeling extreme sadness for this family who lives one street over from us. Our daughter attends Mendenhall and although she is younger she remembers him on his skateboard while driving through the neighborhood. I had the chance to meet the Mother last summer at my friend's summer program where she donated her time there as a Science Teacher. She made a lasting impression on me that day and to hear that it was her son that was taken away completely breaks our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with you today and always. May he rest in peace now and forever! My heart also goes out to the occupant of the truck that day who is also grieving as a family man as well. Cheryl Forneris

Is there any information about the family or funeral plans? A place where one could send flowers or a card of sympathy?
