A 13-year-old boy riding a skateboard died Tuesday after a collision with a truck, Livermore Police Sgt. John Hurd said.
The fatal collision occured around 5:20 p.m. near the intersection of Kara Place and Lomitas Avenue, near Concannon Boulevard.
The boy was identified as Livermore-resident Nathan William Strube by the
Alameda County coroner's bureau.
Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that Nathan was riding his skateboard northbound on Kara Place and was turning to westbound Lomitas Avenue when he struck the side of a pickup truck that was pulling a landscape-type trailer eastbound on Lomitas Avenue.
Police, who interviewed the driver and witnesses, continue to investigate the collision and said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved in the incident. Nathan was wearing a helmet, Hurd said.
When emergency crews arrived on scene they initially called for a helicopter to transport the boy, who was suffering from major injuries, according to reports heard on a police scanner.
It appeared the helicopter was called off and an ambulance rushed Nathan to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
