Attempted Murder on Holmes Street in Livermore Sunday Night Ends in Crash

The suspect was apprehended and charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm, stolen car and evading police.

A Livermore neighborhood was disrupted this holiday weekend when an attempted murder suspect drove recklessly through residential neighborhoods and crashed into Del Valle High School.

Livermore Police responded to the 700 Block of Holmes Street at 9:12 pm on numerous reports of shots fired.

Paul Victor Simmons (aka Paul Muscat), 26, fired multiple rounds from a handgun at two victims, who Simmons is an acquaintance with, police said.

After the shooting, Simmons fled the area in a vehicle that was reported to be stolen, police said.

Officers reported seeing a gray car fleeing the area with its headlights off, police said.

"The officers suspected the vehicle might be involved in the shooting and attempted a traffic stop," police said in a release. 

The suspect in the gray car attempted to evade officers and drove recklessly through the nearby residential streets, ultimately crashing through a fence at Del Valle High School and was apprehended, police said.

Officers recovered a loaded handgun and a loaded handgun magazine at the scene, police said. Simmons is currently on probation.

The victims in this case were not injured.

Simmons was placed under arrest for the following charges:

  • Two counts of attempted murder.
  • Evading the Police with Reckless Disregard for the Public
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Prohibited Person with Ammunition
  • Possession of a Stolen Vehicle

The investigation is ongoing and the Livermore Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance in locating any possible witnesses in this case.
