Arrest Warrant Leads to Explosive Devices

Police discover wrapped sticks of gunpowder at an apartment on East Avenue.

An apartment complex and its surrounding area were evacuated Saturday morning after police discovered explosives while serving an arrest warrant, officials said.

At 8 a.m., police went to unit 209 of an apartment complex at 5810 East Avenue to arrest resident Gabriel Douglas.

When officers arrived they contacted Douglas, 31, and three other occupants, officials said.

Police also conducted a probation search of the apartment after arresting Douglas and found three explosive devices -- two wrapped sticks of gun powder each with fuses and a water bottle containing gun powder and a fuse.

The immediate area was evacuated and the Alameda County Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit responded to secure the explosives, police said.

Once the explosives were secured, residents in surrounding apartments who were evacuated were allowed to re-enter their homes.

Douglas later admitted to possessing the explosives and was transported to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. He was arrested on a probation violation and suspicion of possessing a destructive device, police said.

The other occupants of the apartment were not arrested and were released.

Kevin and Chris are good guys. They genuinely want to give back and care about introducing as manyRead More kids (young and old) as possible to the incredibly rewarding world of music. I am fortunate enough to have had somebody similar to these guys motivate me to get involved in music when I was a kid. 31 years later, I am still beatin’ on my drums every day. Great job Kev and Chris. Keep it up!
