What Do You Do?

Livermore School District has some amazing teachers.  Teachers that will forever be imprinted in our child’s memory as the adult on a pedestal.  The adult that we as parents could say “Now would Mrs. Gagnon like that” and instantly shape them right up into acting properly.  Yes.. there are some amazing teachers out there.  But what do you do when you get a lemon of a teacher?  A teacher that yells when she gets frustrated.  A teacher that talks down to the students saying things like “You’re going to fail anyway” or “No college will ever want you” or “What are you.. stupid?” on a daily basis.  In front of the class.  In front of other adults.  What do you do?

In 8th grade our children are in that in between stage.  The stage between still wanting Mom to tuck them in and say goodnight and the stage of telling you their plans instead of asking for permission.  I feel a person needs guidance at any age.  Especially in their early years.  So to have someone in a position of such importance (a teacher) say something so horrid that I know my son will remember in 30 years?  It just blows my mind.  What do you do?

I’ve done everything right.  I’m trying to be patient regarding the certain steps I know that must be followed with certain authorities.  In the meantime my son is out of her class, but there are still other students in her class because they haven’t removed her from teaching.  Next year there will be other students in her class.  Tell me.  What do you do?
