Letter to Editor - Against the Bankhead

This was put in Independent News two weeks ago and written by Mr. Master Sergeant John Wirts, USA Ret.

He writes and I quote direct from the source:

"I read the “Save The Bankhead” letter by Alan Frank.

I am livid. This Theater was promoted to the City Of Livermore and the County of Alameda, as a self sustaining enterprise, no city or county funds were to be needed. Yeh! Right!

The Theaters in San Francisco, and San Jose are not self sustaining, public funding is required in these two large Metropolitan areas, even then the opera in San Jose closed. So now the president of the Livermore Amador Symphony Association comes out “Hat in hand” asking the city of Livermore to embezzle funds out of the almost bankrupt city coffers, taking money from where? Our streets and sidewalks are so in need of repair that they are dangerous. Perhaps the parks, they too are in disrepair.

Maybe we can charge for parking at the parking garage that was built to support cars going to the Bankhead Theater, but no then we would have to hire parking lot attendants to collect the fees. So who are we going to steal from to support our supposedly self supporting Bankhead Theater? I don't think the County of Alameda is much better off, so which Peter do we rob to pay Paul (the self-sustaining Bankhead theater)."

That was a good letter about the bankrupt theater and white elephant that is in our midst. We needs to cut off the losses now before it gets worse and all our tax monies goes to support the 2% that want the Bankhead to be opens all the time.

Tell the city counsel that we do not want to have our tax money go towards a private venture.

We gave them the land and a free parking garage but now they wants more and more from us to drain us of tax dollars for police and fire and the parks and more. Have the 2% pay for it so they can enjoys it without the tax monies they want. We gave over half a millions already that could be have used for the police and fire.
