Gangnam style is so last year.
The latest dance craze sweeping the online world is the Harlem Shake.
And no, it doesn't have any relation to the 1981-born, original Harlem Shake dance that gained mainstream appeal thanks to early 2000ish hip-hop music.
Rather, this latest flurry of body movements is based on an online video of a group dancing to a 2012-released "Harlem Shake" song by Bauuer, an American DJ and producer. The video went viral and as of mid February has nearly 15 million views on YouTube.
Mashable.com provides a simple, easy-to-digest way of explaining the new Harlem Shake:
The basic premise is always pretty much the same. The song "Harlem Shake" by Baauer begins in a nondescript location that's totally unremarkable save for one person slightly dancing while wearing a mask. Then the line "do the Harlem Shake" comes in, the beat drops and things, well, things just get real weird real fast. Then it all ends after 31 seconds.
