Another nightmare commute!!!! I live on Airway @ Portola and the backup (not to mention the speeders) was an absolute nightmare. Trying to get out of our driveways was like being at Leman's Speedway! I can't fathom what they will be trying to do there.

Funny.... They got to fix those little toad paths they put in the road. Sure did'nt take to long for those Chinese made grates to fall apart. Just fill them in. Make the toads use the crosswalk like the rest of us..
Livermore Girl September 20, 2012 at 11:54 am
Seriously? 10 days to fix something they just built? While they're at it I hope the fix the big huge steel plate patch in the middle of the westbound lane. Can't believe they've left that as long as they have. What terrible workmanship.

Your tax dollars hard at work!
Robert September 20, 2012 at 01:59 pm
Wildlife pathways? SERIOUSLY???why not just call it deer or squirrel crossings...I doubt frog crossings are what they mean...and no offense but for people living in the pathways of this closure, I feel your pain!
Darwinian Justice September 20, 2012 at 02:56 pm
If this was the private sector it'd be done in 2 days. The parasitic unions and public sector as a whole bring inefficiency to a whole new level!
Larry Dickman September 20, 2012 at 03:57 pm
I built that road. We tried very hard to convince the city not to install those. However it was the environmentalist who ruled the day. Another gov't agency that has no financial accountability. Those trenches act as a Pez dispenser for coyotes. They just wait at either end for a mouse, rabbit, squirrel to pop out. Note also where the Wildlife Exclusionary Fence ends. This fence costs $25/lf. Deer jump right over it. But some PETA idiot sleeps well I guess. We need to start voting correctly people. Smaller gov't.
Darwinian Justice September 20, 2012 at 04:22 pm
ROFL.... Pez dispenser :)
+2 points for making me laugh!
Due Yew September 20, 2012 at 05:37 pm
Lowest Bid wins again and says it's not my fault. all over this country are the "PEZ" dispensers. Your Company Larry did it cheaply and the city got what they paid for. Maybe the lowest bidder is not the best choice for the towns people's safety.
Paisley September 20, 2012 at 07:30 pm
I appreciate Larry's candor because I believe him. Maybe if they
didn't have to spend so much on those tunnels they could have fixed the road in a way that makes you feel better and would be more cost effective for the city. Animals adapt. It's called evolution.
Julia September 20, 2012 at 07:42 pm
The PEZ comment is hilarious, but what's not too funny is hitting a deer, or any other critter. It's even less funny when your riding a motorcycle, even something as small as a toad can mess up your evening. Yes, animals adapt, but this is also a matter of safety for humans and critters.
Larry... why on earth would anyone with 1/4 of a brain install an ineffective fence?! Who engineered this masterpiece? Do you think kick-back$$ were involved?
Darwinian Justice September 20, 2012 at 09:07 pm
If you leave the fence down long enough, the deer problem will take care of itself.
The street is lit, is it not? People have headlights, do they not? This is a pretty straight stretch. There is no reason a driver should be surprised by one of those deer unless they suck at driving.
Vickie September 20, 2012 at 09:39 pm
How do the wildlife even know when to cross? Oh, maybe the put signs up for them...
Daniel Graham September 20, 2012 at 09:53 pm
Heads up everyone; There is alot of deer activity on E Airway Blvd. on turn where the Llama Mama use to be. It's not well lit and they come from the direction of the creek. Racoons, possums and skunks as well. Nobody wants to hit a skunk!
Paisley September 20, 2012 at 10:04 pm
Listen people. You are over thinking this. What they need to do is place a government employee at each end to gently cradle the critters to the other side. Then call it a stimulus. Or a green job. Or something. Maybe they could put up some of those solar powered flashing crosswalk signals. Oh wait. They already went bankrupt.
Daniel Graham September 20, 2012 at 10:26 pm
Does this job come with a big fat pension, payed sick days, and no requirement for any kind of job performance. I'm in. I want to do my part in bankrupting the state.

Pez Dispenser--LOL
Mark Tarte September 21, 2012 at 01:28 am
Larry, thank you for a good laugh.
Chris September 21, 2012 at 11:43 am
Paisley, perfectly said. If you were a woman and hot I would marry you today. If I were not already married.
Paisley September 21, 2012 at 02:13 pm
Hahahah. I'm pretty sure my husband wouldn't find that entertaining. But it did make me smile. Thanks.

They are beautiful and you described them so well! I hope that someone steps forward quickly! (IRead More have my quota of cats already.)

It isn't up to the gov. to help raise your kids. The stork didn't drop the kid off unexpectedly. IfRead More you can't afford kids then don't have them.

Wow, so quick to jump to conclusions and judge. Maybe T.G. BUYS the child's lunch. Every schoolRead More sells hot lunch every day. At the majority of our schools, more lunches are bought than given for free.
DeAnna Senft McDaid June 13, 2013 at 12:43 pm
The schools give us 2 options as parents. 1. Buying lunches on campus or 2. Send them with a lunch.Read More Clearly the author of this chose number 1 and the school was OUT leaving the child with NO 3rd option. Shame on that school.

A great issue! However, the rodeo is nothing but animal cruelty wrapped up as "tradition"Read More and "entertainment". Why would the animal's welfare become a concern now? Rodeo performers have been documented beating, kicking, and shocking normally docile cows and horses in chutes and holding pens. "Bucking broncos" and steers are provoked with electric prods, sharp sticks, caustic ointments, and the pinching "bucking" strap, which is what really makes them jump, they are not "wild" and "dangerous" . The cowboys earn points by spurring the bucking horse. I have seen them up close and many are bleeding. Calves, roped when running, have their necks snapped back by the lasso, often resulting in neck and back injuries, bruises, broken bones, and internal bleeding. After their short and painful "careers," animals in rodeos are sent to the slaughterhouse. Dr. C.G. Haber, a veterinarian who spent 30 years as a federal meat inspector, describes the animals discarded from rodeos for slaughter as being "so extensively bruised that the only areas in which the skin was attached [to the flesh] was the head, neck, leg, and belly. I have seen animals with six to eight ribs broken from the spine and, at times, puncturing the lungs. I have seen as much as 2 to 3 gallons of free blood accumulated under the detached skin." Every national animal protection organization opposes rodeos because of their inherent cruelty. Don't feel bad everyone, I used to love the rodeo too. Before I knew better...

Something to consider and not pushing it aside because I feel its unimportant, but what I'd love toRead More have access to is how the riders that were hurt are doing today. Two bull riders got gored, one in the back and he was down and out for a bit and then obviously not "okay" as he stumbled out of the arena and then another that got his leg hurt and he couldn't get himself over the gate on his own. Left saturday's Rodeo hoping they were okay and would love follow up if at all possible. Thanks!

Thank you! That is what we want to know too. We have had more power outages this week than in theRead More 20+ years total that we have lived in this house!
Lynn June 8, 2013 at 07:03 pm
It would be nice to know, indeed. When my husband called to report the outage the recording saidRead More there were no outages in our area, which was clearly incorrect.
AT June 9, 2013 at 06:00 pm
I got the same thing, no outages when I called. I requested to be contacted by PG&E to explainRead More the problem. No call for that but I did get a "survey" call about their automated system. We have also lived here for 20+ years and never had this many outages.

Great photos, Kathie..was the horse being evacuated?
Kathie Seymour-Sindicic June 8, 2013 at 12:54 pm
Thank you!! Yes this lady was evacuating this horse. It was the only one a saw be evacuated.
