Hey, Livermore. The Fireworks Show Will Go On!

The Livermore Fireworks Committee submitted a down payment to bring back the Fourth of July fireworks display.

And the show will go on.

The Fireworks Committee on Thursday submitted a down payment for a July 4 fireworks display. The committee is

The $11,250 down payment to Pyro Spectaculars was raised through donations, and a . The amount is half of what is needed to pay off the total fireworks bill — which the committee expects to clear after the July 4 celebration.

Pyro Spectaculars has been involved in Livermore's Fourth of July celebration for nearly 30 years, officials said.

Organizers are likely to move the celebration to after recent changes to , the previous location of the event, have significantly reduced parking space.

Last year's fireworks were canceled due to budget shortfalls for both the and the , officials said. For more information on why the event was cancelled last year

Nice job!

That's awesome. This will be a great opportunity to showoff our community to all those folks who will be driving in to see OUR fireworks show. I hope our local businesses will be given the opportunity to share in this event with booths near seating areas: First St Alehouse sliders and root beer floats (yeah beer wouldn't fly) booth, Panama Coffee booth etc.
Rob Federle April 12, 2012 at 04:33 pm
This is a stupid idea! Part of the fun of having it at the Rodeo Grounds was that so many people who live nearby could just watch the show from their homes. Now, there will be a huge bottleneck caused by the shows over near the college, where, by the way, not nearly as many people will be able to view from their homes. If they had a way to charge people living near Robertson Park, they would have kept it at the original location!
Laureen Turner April 12, 2012 at 07:23 pm
Thank you to all of the people who have worked towards making this event happen. I look forward to sharing this celebration with you all. Well done !!!!
WendyW April 12, 2012 at 08:05 pm
Rob,
It had nothing to do with charging people who live around Robertson Park. It has to do with the changes at Robertson Park. The park can no longer accommodate a fireworks event.
D.C. April 12, 2012 at 08:53 pm
Rob, perhaps not as many people from your neighborhood will be able to view it, but there are certainly a lot of folks near Las Positas that will now be able to. We've had to go to Robertson park for years when it would be nicer to watch from home (and, incidentally, sometimes having to pay nearby residents for parking) - guess you guys will be seeing how it feels.
Robert April 12, 2012 at 10:09 pm
Awesome news to hear.....fireworks are an important part of the 4th of July festivities!!!!THANKS TO THE PEOPLE THAT MADE THIS POSSIBLE!!!!!!
Mike S April 12, 2012 at 10:16 pm
Great...we will get to see the brilliantly designed 2 lane road connecting both sides of the freeway...2 lanes each direction all the way down Portola, bottle neck them into one lane in each direction and then open it up to 2 lanes again in each direction. Not the brightest move...especially since there are signs that indicate the roads T'ing in to the new Portola section will be expanded.

So Mike what is your solution? Are you a traffic consultant?
a local citizen April 12, 2012 at 10:27 pm
Rob,
I find people who are upset that the fireworks event can't possible be held at Robertson Park any more are the ones that got see a very expensive fireworks display for FREE!
Local April 13, 2012 at 12:14 am
O_o Las Positas.....?? Well my initial excitement of finding out the fireworks are coming back is now GONE with the wind (and it's damn windy outside).
william April 13, 2012 at 12:45 pm
Mike is good at complaining but I don't see where he's is offering a solution it is just great that the people of Livermore have been able too get together and make this possible again for all to see! and I am sure if we all put our collecctive minds together we'll find a solution

Horrible location! I will not be attending due soley to the location!! Robertson Park was ideal for all, and mostly beneficial for downtown business/Restaurants. Waste of money!
Paisley April 13, 2012 at 02:46 pm
I don't think it is realistic- but it would be nice if the city could work some deal with the gravel company to host the pyrotechnics, and people could park at shadow cliff. I think people would pay more to be in the park because the fireworks reflecting off the lake would be amazing. Again. I don't think it is realistic. Just fantasizing.
Livermore Fireworks April 13, 2012 at 03:16 pm
Here are some reasons why Robertson Park will no longer be available for a fireworks event. In addition with new structures that have been built on the softball field, which is the fallout are for the fireworks burning embers. A great deal of money has been spent on these structures I really don't think that anyone would want them damaged from burning embers. In addition with less than half the room for people that was available in the past, the event would not be sustainable. I'm sure people want to have a fireworks event in 2013.

D.C. April 13, 2012 at 03:20 pm
No, Robertson wasn't ideal for everyone. Additionally, "mostly beneficial for downtown business/Restaurants" doesn't mean that their wishes should overrule resident wishes.
I'll feel more sympathy for downtown Livermore when they remove the ban on food for the "free" downtown concerts. Lastly - unless you contributed, how can you say it is a waste of money? If you wanted some other option, get off your butt and organize your own fireworks effort. I'm sorry - I forgot that would be harder than complaining on the internet.
D.C. April 13, 2012 at 03:20 pm
Now THAT is a good idea!
Willfred Clydenson April 13, 2012 at 03:22 pm
I'll be able to see it from my house =]

Rob:
Space available for parking at and near Robertson Park has been reduced more than 50% due to construction of new housing on property historically used for parking. Previously, land owned by the Livermore Valley Joint Union School District was used for event parking; however that land was sold after determining that a school would not be built on the site. In addition, the two sports fields where people gathered will soon be improved for year-round use with artificial turf fields, making them off-limits for the event due to potential damage caused by large numbers of people on them. A number of cities have made the difficult decision to cancel their fireworks shows to contain costs and protect other services. Therefore an increase in number of people visiting Livermore to celebrate our nation’s independence is expected. Given the constraints at Robertson Park, a new location is needed to provide sufficient space for people to safely gather and prevent massive gridlock in the center of town. The above being stated, I am grateful for a venue that will provide a safe, spacious location for a celebration of America's Birthday!

Wow, so quick to jump to conclusions and judge. Maybe T.G. BUYS the child's lunch. Every schoolRead More sells hot lunch every day. At the majority of our schools, more lunches are bought than given for free.
DeAnna Senft McDaid June 13, 2013 at 12:43 pm
The schools give us 2 options as parents. 1. Buying lunches on campus or 2. Send them with a lunch.Read More Clearly the author of this chose number 1 and the school was OUT leaving the child with NO 3rd option. Shame on that school.

A great issue! However, the rodeo is nothing but animal cruelty wrapped up as "tradition"Read More and "entertainment". Why would the animal's welfare become a concern now? Rodeo performers have been documented beating, kicking, and shocking normally docile cows and horses in chutes and holding pens. "Bucking broncos" and steers are provoked with electric prods, sharp sticks, caustic ointments, and the pinching "bucking" strap, which is what really makes them jump, they are not "wild" and "dangerous" . The cowboys earn points by spurring the bucking horse. I have seen them up close and many are bleeding. Calves, roped when running, have their necks snapped back by the lasso, often resulting in neck and back injuries, bruises, broken bones, and internal bleeding. After their short and painful "careers," animals in rodeos are sent to the slaughterhouse. Dr. C.G. Haber, a veterinarian who spent 30 years as a federal meat inspector, describes the animals discarded from rodeos for slaughter as being "so extensively bruised that the only areas in which the skin was attached [to the flesh] was the head, neck, leg, and belly. I have seen animals with six to eight ribs broken from the spine and, at times, puncturing the lungs. I have seen as much as 2 to 3 gallons of free blood accumulated under the detached skin." Every national animal protection organization opposes rodeos because of their inherent cruelty. Don't feel bad everyone, I used to love the rodeo too. Before I knew better...

Something to consider and not pushing it aside because I feel its unimportant, but what I'd love toRead More have access to is how the riders that were hurt are doing today. Two bull riders got gored, one in the back and he was down and out for a bit and then obviously not "okay" as he stumbled out of the arena and then another that got his leg hurt and he couldn't get himself over the gate on his own. Left saturday's Rodeo hoping they were okay and would love follow up if at all possible. Thanks!

Thank you! That is what we want to know too. We have had more power outages this week than in theRead More 20+ years total that we have lived in this house!
Lynn June 8, 2013 at 07:03 pm
It would be nice to know, indeed. When my husband called to report the outage the recording saidRead More there were no outages in our area, which was clearly incorrect.
AT June 9, 2013 at 06:00 pm
I got the same thing, no outages when I called. I requested to be contacted by PG&E to explainRead More the problem. No call for that but I did get a "survey" call about their automated system. We have also lived here for 20+ years and never had this many outages.
