The $11,250 down payment to Pyro Spectaculars was raised through donations, and a . The amount is half of what is needed to pay off the total fireworks bill — which the committee expects to clear after the July 4 celebration.
Pyro Spectaculars has been involved in Livermore's Fourth of July celebration for nearly 30 years, officials said.

It had nothing to do with charging people who live around Robertson Park. It has to do with the changes at Robertson Park. The park can no longer accommodate a fireworks event.
I find people who are upset that the fireworks event can't possible be held at Robertson Park any more are the ones that got see a very expensive fireworks display for FREE!

I'll feel more sympathy for downtown Livermore when they remove the ban on food for the "free" downtown concerts. Lastly - unless you contributed, how can you say it is a waste of money? If you wanted some other option, get off your butt and organize your own fireworks effort. I'm sorry - I forgot that would be harder than complaining on the internet.
Space available for parking at and near Robertson Park has been reduced more than 50% due to construction of new housing on property historically used for parking. Previously, land owned by the Livermore Valley Joint Union School District was used for event parking; however that land was sold after determining that a school would not be built on the site. In addition, the two sports fields where people gathered will soon be improved for year-round use with artificial turf fields, making them off-limits for the event due to potential damage caused by large numbers of people on them. A number of cities have made the difficult decision to cancel their fireworks shows to contain costs and protect other services. Therefore an increase in number of people visiting Livermore to celebrate our nation’s independence is expected. Given the constraints at Robertson Park, a new location is needed to provide sufficient space for people to safely gather and prevent massive gridlock in the center of town. The above being stated, I am grateful for a venue that will provide a safe, spacious location for a celebration of America's Birthday!
