Light Up Your Life With Savings!

Ways to Save Energy Through Your Lighting

Lighting helps you do things around the house, creates a desired atmosphere, but also uses energy. Try these tips to help you reduce your PG&E bill:

  • Buy bulbs for less: buying CFL's cost less especially if you buy in bulk (i.e. Costco, where the bulbs sell for less than a $1 each!).
  • Replace standard bulbs with CFL's: they cost much less and actually provide much more light than conventional light bulbs. In addition, they emit less heat-kills two birds with one stone-so it creates less heat in your home.
  • Use the right bulb: read the label on your lighting fixture to see if the bulb is actually compatible with it. Often, you may be using the wrong one!
  • Use motion detector lights: I like how at the Target on Las Positas Rd. uses these motion detector lights in the refrigerated area. If you're a victim of forgetting to turn off lights, these may be a great investment (though not at the same extent of Target's).
About the Live More, Save More Program: it is funded by the City of Livermore, Chevron Energy Solutions, and WattzOn to Livermore residents and small businesses with three goals, 1) reduce energy use, 2) save money on your PG&E bill, and 3) raise awareness.
