Stem – What is it and why do we care.

STEM education is a needed aspect of Livermore Education

Hello everyone. It has been a long time since my last blog. With the school year winding down, I will be starting back up with topics that are of interest to Livermore citizens. The first refers to STEM. First of all:

Will we have enough engineers, scientists, doctors, nurses, and technicians in the future?  The research says no.  These are the so-called “STEM” jobs – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math - and too few students are prepared for these career fields.  Only 4% of ninth graders in the US will earn a STEM degree within 10 years, a statistic that threatens our quality of life.

Stem education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education is needed in Livermore. Our local laboratories struggle with finding new employees with solid STEM education to work here in Livermore.  As the economy continues to improve, the ability to find good employees will be very important for the strength of our local economy.

Careers in STEM throughout our region, state, and nation are in STEM are growing faster than the job market, and are good high-paying jobs.   A large percentage of Livermore’s employers are in a STEM-oriented business, providing strong opportunities for STEM graduates.

Due to this, your local rotary clubs have come together to fund raise for STEM education in Livermore Schools. There is a wonderful party coming up in May at the Robert Livermore Center on May 17 at 6:30.
