As the Dust Settles

Here is the first of Blogs on City Politics and the Livermore City Council

The election is over. The mailers are no longer clogging mail boxes across town. The signs have all been picked up and Livermore is back to normal — more or less. Through this election season, I was amazed at the passion so many people have for Livermore. I was additionally humbled by the people who came out in support of my campaign. Thank you all. Livermore is a wonderful and unique place to live.

I am excited to serve our town. I am starting this blog as one of my campaign promises to help keep the citizens of Livermore informed as well as to hear from you. Each week, I plan a topic of interest or information on interesting events around town. As major votes in the council come up, I will write to the topic. I am hoping this blog will be both informational as well as provide people a place to dialogue on issues that are important to you and the future of our city.

First, this Monday night at 7 in the city council chamber we say goodbye to Marj Leider, Jeff Williams, and Marshall Kamena. These individuals have served our town collectively for decades. They have made a difference in Livermore and should be proud of the print they have made on our city. I wish them well in their future endeavors.

Next, our new mayor and two council members will be sworn into office. John Marchand for mayor, Stuart Gary for City Council, and myself, Laureen Turner for City Council. Our primary point of business this week will be to decide on the process for replacing the city council seat left open by Mayor elect Marchand’s victory. The options are a special election or for the council to appoint someone to the position.

If you have input into this decision, feel free to visit the meeting and speak in the citizens forum. I am assuming that the council will lean towards an appointment due to the cost of a special election. Moving forward, we will then set dates for applications and interviews. If you are interested in serving, please apply.
