Why can't I lose weight?

This is the big question most people ask when they come over to see me for their health and fitness needs. People get frustrated that they have tried every diet their is and they have only been eating 1200 to 1500 calories and days and the short term weight loss is followed to double weight gain. Especially when you compare yourself to someone who eats a lot and is still skinny, this drives people absolutely insane.
 The main reason you are not losing weight is that you are suckered into believing that eating the least amount of calories will help you lose weight faster than anything else out there, which in theory this is true that to lose 2-3 lbs a week, you have to have a daily calorie deficit of 500 -1000 calories. The problem with this solution is that you are starving yourself and when you starve yourself you are starving your lean muscle mass, so most of the weight loss that you experience is due to muscle loss and in actuality your percentage body fat goes up and now you have efficiently slowed down your metabolism. Once you are off your diet you gain weight faster than how you lost it but worse, now you are more unhealthy than when you started your diet.
As we all age, we are bound to lose 8-10% lean muscle mass every decade and by starving your muscles you are not doing yourself any favor.
So if you are planning to lose weight correctly then you must do the following.
- Get your baseline metabolic rate tested
- Strength train 3-4 times a week
- Nourish your muscles properly to eating 6 small meals that are high in protein
- Limit your carbohydrate intake during dinner
- Drink 1 gallon of water everyday and also drink water 1st thing in the morning.
- Get enough sleep
- Never skip breakfast

Just by following the plan above, watch your metabolic rate going up and your body weight and body size come down.
