Armed with only sleeping bags and a dim flashlight, 10 teams of two will attempt to survive one night in an East Bay amusement park's haunted house that ranks scariest in California.
Fear Overload Scream Park is hosting on Saturday its first-ever "Sleepover Challenge," where contestants will spend the night -- or try to -- inside pitch-black labyrinths and complete team challenges, while those on the outside can listen in on the horror and and view video snippets on the internet.
Beyond the Realms of Metal, a Santa Clara radio station, will be tuned into the event, which takes place in San Leandro.
Only 10 applicant pairs will be chosen to participate. And the deadline is tonight -- Thursday, Oct. 17 -- at 11 p.m.
“Think of it like Survivor, but for Halloween,” said Nathan Polanco, producer of Fear Overload Scream Park. “The bravest and most strategic soul will win. We have a grand prize in store for the winner who survives the horror to sunrise.”
The 20 overnight "guests" will check in at 11:59 p.m. Saturday and emerge -- hopefully -- Sunday morning at 7:10 a.m. Team members begin the challenge together, however, team members may be eliminated individually.
And at the end, there is only one winner to take home the grand prize.
“This sleepover contest has been designed to be so horrifying that we had to have strict emergency procedures to account for the possibility of heart attack and fear-induced delusion,” Polanco said. Those interested should apply as a group/team of two people, and send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with both names, photos of each person, and no more than 150 words to describe yourselves. Only 10 applicant pairs will be chosen to participate. And the deadline is tonight at 11 p.m. Details.
