Another nightmare commute!!!! I live on Airway @ Portola and the backup (not to mention the speeders) was an absolute nightmare. Trying to get out of our driveways was like being at Leman's Speedway! I can't fathom what they will be trying to do there.

Funny.... They got to fix those little toad paths they put in the road. Sure did'nt take to long for those Chinese made grates to fall apart. Just fill them in. Make the toads use the crosswalk like the rest of us..

Seriously? 10 days to fix something they just built? While they're at it I hope the fix the big huge steel plate patch in the middle of the westbound lane. Can't believe they've left that as long as they have. What terrible workmanship.

Your tax dollars hard at work!

Wildlife pathways? SERIOUSLY???why not just call it deer or squirrel crossings...I doubt frog crossings are what they mean...and no offense but for people living in the pathways of this closure, I feel your pain!

If this was the private sector it'd be done in 2 days. The parasitic unions and public sector as a whole bring inefficiency to a whole new level!
Larry Dickman September 20, 2012 at 06:57 PM
I built that road. We tried very hard to convince the city not to install those. However it was the environmentalist who ruled the day. Another gov't agency that has no financial accountability. Those trenches act as a Pez dispenser for coyotes. They just wait at either end for a mouse, rabbit, squirrel to pop out. Note also where the Wildlife Exclusionary Fence ends. This fence costs $25/lf. Deer jump right over it. But some PETA idiot sleeps well I guess. We need to start voting correctly people. Smaller gov't.

ROFL.... Pez dispenser :) +2 points for making me laugh!

Lowest Bid wins again and says it's not my fault. all over this country are the "PEZ" dispensers. Your Company Larry did it cheaply and the city got what they paid for. Maybe the lowest bidder is not the best choice for the towns people's safety.
Paisley September 20, 2012 at 10:30 PM
I appreciate Larry's candor because I believe him. Maybe if they didn't have to spend so much on those tunnels they could have fixed the road in a way that makes you feel better and would be more cost effective for the city. Animals adapt. It's called evolution.
Julia September 20, 2012 at 10:42 PM
The PEZ comment is hilarious, but what's not too funny is hitting a deer, or any other critter. It's even less funny when your riding a motorcycle, even something as small as a toad can mess up your evening. Yes, animals adapt, but this is also a matter of safety for humans and critters. Larry... why on earth would anyone with 1/4 of a brain install an ineffective fence?! Who engineered this masterpiece? Do you think kick-back$$ were involved?
Darwinian Justice September 21, 2012 at 12:07 AM
If you leave the fence down long enough, the deer problem will take care of itself. The street is lit, is it not? People have headlights, do they not? This is a pretty straight stretch. There is no reason a driver should be surprised by one of those deer unless they suck at driving.
Vickie September 21, 2012 at 12:39 AM
How do the wildlife even know when to cross? Oh, maybe the put signs up for them...
Mr. Pickles September 21, 2012 at 12:53 AM
Heads up everyone; There is alot of deer activity on E Airway Blvd. on turn where the Llama Mama use to be. It's not well lit and they come from the direction of the creek. Racoons, possums and skunks as well. Nobody wants to hit a skunk!
Paisley September 21, 2012 at 01:04 AM
Listen people. You are over thinking this. What they need to do is place a government employee at each end to gently cradle the critters to the other side. Then call it a stimulus. Or a green job. Or something. Maybe they could put up some of those solar powered flashing crosswalk signals. Oh wait. They already went bankrupt.
Mr. Pickles September 21, 2012 at 01:26 AM
Does this job come with a big fat pension, payed sick days, and no requirement for any kind of job performance. I'm in. I want to do my part in bankrupting the state.

Mark Tarte September 21, 2012 at 04:28 AM
Larry, thank you for a good laugh.
Chris September 21, 2012 at 02:43 PM
Paisley, perfectly said. If you were a woman and hot I would marry you today. If I were not already married.
Paisley September 21, 2012 at 05:13 PM
Hahahah. I'm pretty sure my husband wouldn't find that entertaining. But it did make me smile. Thanks.
