A cancer diagnosis doesn’t just impact the patient, it has a ripple effect on their family and friends. It can be a challenge to get the patient to doctor appointments and treatments while continuing to work and carry on other activities.
Cancer survivor Sherry Higgs saw the need for transportation and did something about it. She started Drivers for Survivors, which provides free transportation to treatments for Alameda County patients. In just two years, the organization has provided 2,600 rides. Most patients are taken to a local hospital, but some go as far away as Stanford.
The organization is holding a fundraiser this Saturday. For tickets or to make a donation, check Drivers for Survivors website.
