Community Corner

What's a Secular Jew?

Are you Jewish but not religious?  Are you uncomfortable in synagogue, but in your element at the deli, Mel Brooks movies and noisy political discussions?  Are you looking for a community where you fit in?  A way for your kids to learn about being Jewish without the demands of religious belief? Tri-Valley Cultural Jews is holding an informational meeting and bagel brunch on Sunday, September 8 at 10:30 a.m. where those interested can learn about the history and practices of Secular Jews, hear about Jewish Culture School for children and meet members of the organization.  There will be activities for children while the parents meet.  Please let us know you're coming, so we can make sure we have plenty of food! Call us at 925 485 1049 or email reservations@Tri-ValleyCulturalJews.org.

Tri-Valley Cultural Jews serves those whose Jewish identity is based on culture, heritage and family, rather than on religion.  The organization sponsors holiday and sabbath celebrations, educational and cultural activities, and a Jewish Culture School leading to a Secular Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Non-traditional families and intermarried households are welcome.  TVCJ is an affiliate of the Congress of Secular Jewish Organizations.
