Free Tax Preparation by IRS Certified VITA Volunteers

For the 7th year, the Tri-Valley Housing Opportunity Center is providing FREE Income Tax preparation For qualified individuals and families with household income less than $52,000 annually. Tax returns are prepared by IRS-certified VITA volunteer tax preparers.

You may also be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and other credits, which can result in MORE MONEY in your pocket!!!  

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the United Way of the Bay Area Earn It! Keep It! Save It! Coalition, is available for qualifying families and individuals at the Tri-Valley Housing Opportunity Center.

WHEN:       Tuesdays & Thursdays – 4 to 8 pm 

                   WEEKLY Through April 15, 2014

WHAT TO BRING:

  1. Picture ID and Social Security cards for all family members (sorry, no exceptions)
  2. All forms, W-2 AND 1099’s for all 2013 jobs & income
  3. Information for all other income (interest, savings, IRA’s, etc)
  4. Information for all deductions and credits 
  5.    o    Childcare provider information (SSN or EIN & address)
  6.    o    Name, Address, and Phone Number of Landlord, if applicable
  7. A copy of last year’s Tax Return is helpful
  8. Married couples filing jointly must come together
  9. For Direct Deposit of tax refund, please bring routing & account numbers for savings and/or checking accounts for split refund service (and faster refund!)                                      

THE CENTER WILL NOT PREPARE:

—  Married filing separately — Schedule E (rental income and loss) —  Form 2106 (employee business expenses) — Form 8606 (non-deductable IRA) —  Form 8615 (minor’s investment income) — 1040NR (non-resident) — Schedule C with losses over $10,000 — Self employment with over $5,000 in expenses
