An American Songline, A Journey in Music

2013 is the 100th anniversary of the founding of
the Lincoln Highway, the first intercontinental highway. The
route from Sacramento to Oakland took travelers through Livermore.  The Duarte Garage on the corner of L Street
and Portola was an important stop between the Altamont Pass and Oakland. To celebrate this anniversary,
the Livermore Heritage Guild is
sponsoring a concert and a dedication of an original Lincoln Highway marker  on Saturday afternoon, August 31, at 4pm at the Duarte Garage.

The concert, An American Songline, features, Cecelia Otto, singer/songwriter, who
has been traveling the Lincoln Highway this summer giving concerts at cities all
along the route.  Mezzo-contralto “Cece”
adopts the persona of a young woman in 1920, singing songs and telling stories about
life in the era when the highway was built. Her accompanist for the afternoon will
be David Foster from Stockton.

Prior to the concert the Tri-Valley Questers will dedicate
an original Lincoln Highway Marker which they have donated to the Guild.  It will become a permanent display at the
Duarte Garage.  We will learn some
history about how these markers were placed by Boy Scouts back in 1928. Livermore BSA Troop 939 will open the event with a flag ceremony.
