The Livermore Chamber Launches Social Media

The Livermore Chamber of Commerce connects with the community and local businesses with their new blog and Twitter id.

The is connecting with the community through their new social media tools. Last week it announced that it had a  that gives users direct connection to the chamber. Livermore is likely the only chamber in the San Francisco Bay Area that has launched a smart phone app.

As part of their strategy to connect to local businesses and the Tri-Valley community, they have also put in place the final two "legs" of their social media plan.

First, they have, like many businesses, started using Twitter to communicate with the community. Through their Twitter id, @livermorechamber, the chamber will connect with other local people and businesses and promote local events and news.

For instance, at the summer luncheon last week at , they encouraged attendees to tweet during the luncheon using the #lccluncheon hashtag, so other attendees could follow the live, online conversation and follow each other.

, president and CEO of the chamber said, "Twitter is new to us, so we're still learning. We want to use it to promote news about local businesses but have fun with it at the same time too."

The chamber has also been using Twitter to promote their new Livermore Chamber blog, which includes articles and news about what's going on in the local business community. The blog features several guest authors who will be contributing articles about different topics, including government, local education, business, and news.

One of the benefits of being a chamber member is that businesses can ask to have their press releases posted on the website. The chamber will now post all press releases on the blog, and promote them directly through their Twitter and Facebook ids.

A recent example is Checkers Catering and Special Events who announced in their press release that they are donating their Executive Chef, Kathleen Hoffman, to Score for Kids, an auction benefitting Oakland Children’s Hospital & Research Center on Sept. 19. The chamber's blog also has their press release so the local community will see it through their local social media connections.

"We're hoping that the local community and businesses will engage with us by following us on Twitter and Facebook and reading what's going on in our business community through our blog posts," Kaye said.
