Sprouts & Shutters: Sutherland Distilling Company

A "microdistillery" is coming to Livermore

Livermore will soon be home to a new microdistillery which will make rum, vodka and eventually barrel-aged whiskey. The Sutherland Distilling Company, owned by Eric Larimer along with brothers Berry and Ryan Sutherland aims to open in the fall.

The facility is located at 3189 Independence Drive in Livermore and the daily progress of the construction can be followed on their Facebook page.

Larimer says this will be one of the only microdistilleries in the area.

"We have been working on this project for two years," Larimer said. "It has been a laborious process, getting through all the permits but we will officially be a legal producer within a few months. Our paperwork with the City of Livermore has all been approved."

Larimer added that although guests won't be able to buy their product at the distillery, they will be able to take tours and enjoy free tastings of the spirits.

According to Larimer, the spirits will eventually be available in local shops,
liquor stores and restaurants and a list on the distillery will be updated with those locations.
