Chamber Ambassadors Welcome New Businesses

The Livermore Chamber of Commerce has an army of volunteers who help company owners who join the organization.

Businesses that join the have the opportunity to celebrate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Some chambers charge a fee for the ribbon cutting, but it's included as a benefit from the Livermore chamber.

Some owners host the ribbon cutting at their place of business, and invite friends and family. It is a celebration, after all. Others hold it at the chamber office. Either way, the owner gets to introduce his or her company, staff, tell a little about the business and if work is done on site, give a tour of the facility.

During the ceremonial ribbon cutting with giant scissors (no, they don't actually cut), the chamber will take a photo that is posted on its website and printed in the Business Journal, a monthly insert in local papers.

Chamber Ambassadors

Who are all those people you see in Livermore Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting photos? Besides friends and family of the business owner, they're Ambassadors — the goodwill arm of the chamber. Ambassadors volunteer to represent the chamber by welcoming new members, attending grand openings and sharing what it can do for business owners.

They are able to talk with business owners, share their own experiences and offer information on how the chamber can help them. Having a friendly face to help navigate myriad opportunities and benefits ensures business owners get the most from their membership.

Everyone Benefits

Ambassadors also represent their own businesses while out in the community, and make valuable connections. This additional networking opportunity has proven  invaluable.

"Being an Ambassador has enabled me to meet some great people and we've been able to partner on projects that benefit both my business and the charity I head. These connections have been mutually beneficial. Plus, I get the inside scoop on new business in town!" says Jeanie Haigh of Web Bearings, Inc. and Good News Bears.

Chaired by a volunteer each year, the 2011 Ambassador Committee is headed by Dave Farpelha of Custom Sports Cards. Dave makes sure the ambassadors are current on chamber initiatives and are notified of all events and ribbon cuttings.

Any chamber member in good standing is welcome to be a part of this valuable and fun committee. Meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at the Livermore chamber offices. Once a quarter, Ambassadors meet off-site at a member restaurant.
