ArtWalk Livermore Offers 'Gallery District for a Day'

The 12th annual event takes place Saturday, Oct. 12 in downtown Livermore.

From the city of Livermore--

12th Annual ArtWalk Livermore Set for October 12

Community, art, music and Livermore’s lovely downtown all come together during the 12th Annual ArtWalk Livermore, set for October 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Unlike most art festivals, the streets are kept open and art displays are set-up throughout the downtown in and around parks, sidewalks, galleries, wine bars, restaurants and shops, allowing visitors and the local community to experience all that this wine country downtown has to offer and a “gallery district for a day”.

Works by over 150 artists in groups, booths and exhibits will be on display, ranging from contemporary to classical, abstract to realism, pottery to mixed media, with subject matter from floral to figurative and much more.

Art destination offerings outside of the clusters of booths offer a varied selection of art experiences, from exhibitions inside the Bankhead Theater to several spaces that offer revolving art exhibitions throughout the year, such as Figurehead Gallery and Panama Red Coffee Company.

Open studios will be held at the Downtown Art Studios and at the Firehouse Art Studios. This is a treat that brings people up the stairs year after year for exceptional contemporary art.

Empty Bowl Project

This year, ArtWalk donates a booth to the Granada High School students' extended "Empty Bowl Project", part of a worldwide grassroots campaign to help end hunger.  128 Granada High School students and DIY Club members create ceramic bowls, sell them at ArtWalk, and donate the proceeds to Open Heart Kitchen.

Their booth will be located directly in front of the Bankhead Theater, and coincides with the high school and school district art exhibition inside the theater.

Art Banner Silent Auction

Visitors can view up close the hand-painted art banners that were hung as street art in September, bid on them at the Art Banner Auction and enjoy a glass of fine local wine from our wine, beer and beverage bar at the Livermore Valley Plaza.

The Art Banner Auction closes at 4:30.

Acoustic Music Concerts

Also at the Plaza, select Bay Area musicians will perform free concerts on the green all day, with cafe-style seating.

See www.valleysingout.com for the lineup.

Local Art Teacher’s Exhibition

Also inside the theater, local art teachers will be hosting their exhibition reception. The exhibit, hung throughout the lobby and stairwells, features works by many local public and notable private teachers in the arts who have helped to nurture the arts in our community.

Other Art Destinations

Other special art destination offerings will include:

  • Open studios at Bothwell's Downtown Art Studios and Firehouse Art Studios
  • A woodcarving exhibition at Blacksmith Square
  • Exhibitions at Figurehead Art Gallery
  • And once again ArtWalk donates space for the return of the Disabled Veteran’s Painting Program exhibit at the Livermore Chamber of Commerce.  This is an all-volunteer run program to help the Vets find an avenue for creative expression in a companionable and supportive environment.

An artist’s gallery and maps for the event are available online at www.artwalklivermore.com.
