The tight-knit community of Dublin is hanging white ribbons throughout town.
The ribbons, which started appearing on Dec. 2, symbolize "peace and hope" and are part of a movement on a Facebook page being promoted by Colleen Greer Pearson of Dublin.
Pearson posted on Facebook:
"Please join me in adorning our community with LOVE, PEACE and HOPE by putting a white ribbon or white fabric bow on any pole, tree or mailbox that lines the street. This is such a tough time for Dublin Ranch Families.. This is a non invasive way of showing our love. What a sight it will be to see white bows line the streets of Dublin Ranch. United we love, care and support! Thank you. Please pass this on."
The Dublin community is trying to cope with the very recent loss of , and many are tying the white ribbons in remembrance of him. No information has been released regarding Starrett's death.
Pearson said she started the white ribbon movement to support all in Dublin who are suffering.
"As a community we just wanted to do something," said Greer. "I hope people can find peace."
Patch reader Kerrie Chabot wrote:
"My students will make 150 ribbons today for Colleen to distribute at the City Council meeting tonight in Dublin. Residents are encouraged to put these ribbons on their mailboxes or trees in remembrance."
Patch reader Denise Holt says that at 6 p.m. there will be a moment of silence for Starrett and the handing out of hundreds of white ribbons for Dublin residents to take home and display.
Update from Facebook on Dec. 5:
Over 600 White Bows for Peace & Hope have been made..the number does not reflect all the White Bows you have placed in our neighborhoods. This effort was brought to the attention of City Council last evening, where everyone in attendance left with white bows. It was awesome! Many mentioned they have seen the "White Bows" and are in support of Peace and Hope for this All American City. Let's keep it up..we are making a difference and bringing awareness to a much needed cause, the precious youth of this community. Next in the works is making this annual!
On Dec. 5, Pearson posted on Facebook that a "white out" is happening in town.
I have filled the "White Bow" basket 2xs today. This is great! Please keep hanging white bows. Many schools are getting involved too. A "White out" in Dublin. Thanks to you all.
