Being obese is a choice, not a punishment. As someone who recently lost 75 pounds, I find it disgusting that not only did this man feel the need to get help from everyone but himself, but that so many people are feeding into it. You can't help someone who doesn't want to change.

75 lbs! How'd you do it? That's awesome!
Boar May 19, 2012 at 01:29 AM
I lost 140 lbs by hiking and not eating garbage food, nobody helped me, I purely had the will to make a change.

I am not a fan of Dr. Phil but I think this was a great episode. I am proud to live in Livermore and see the community come together! I can't wait to see some results from Robert. He is a nice looking kid and I hope he gets his life back.

Wow glad to see that all of you are so supportive with your negative comments I am so glad to know that there are still shameless people out there that think that there dumb comments don't get heard but they do. My brother is doing what it takes to loss weight to bad that its not good comments on here but 1 when he reads these comments for support to know that he has friends and a home town that believes in him and aren't against him but sad that your closed minds are the way that they are I just hope that your parents, siblings or children don't ever have to go throw such heartache of disappointment of family members or home town people of having people judging them as you are my brother and family.
Tanya Carpenter May 19, 2012 at 04:59 AM
Thank you ken for you comment he is on his way the hard part was asking for help which for someone that know that he was going to get judged is not easy to do. Thank you for your positive comment.

If you missed the show, you can go to http://drphil.com/shows/show/1849/ to watch Robert's progress. It's important to give support to this young man asking for help.
Ethan May 19, 2012 at 06:06 AM
Wow, I find Robert's public plea for help to be very courageous. I have family members who have suffered in the same way that Robert is experiencing, it sometimes takes a number of people and support for one to start getting better and healthier. I would be very interested in sending Robert a private note of support, if this is possible. My name is Ethan. Thanks!
Ken Rovasio May 19, 2012 at 06:41 AM
Tanya, I would love to meet you, your brother and mom give your family support. This is what a community is all about. I have been moved by your brothers story. It took a lot for him to ask for help.

I am from other country and this case call my attention, because is sad to see young people overweight. How important is for us to teach our kids to live a healthy life style and show them how they can do.. . I hope God continue to help this handsome young man and give his the strength he need now to be free.

Some people on here disgust me with how nagitive you are. Someone is trying to get help and then you say the things you say, You must be extremely miserable. I feel sorry for you. As for Robert good luck, stay strong and don't ever let these miserable people get to you! You can do it!!
Trevor Tooze May 19, 2012 at 04:25 PM
Obviously, he intends to change, that is why he made a plea for help. You saya you lost 75 lbs, good for you, but I this young man's case is far more extreme. Get a heart , and don't be so critical. You have no idea of the circumstances. Get a heart.

He wants change and that is why he reached out. Why do you find the need to say something mean? Maybe you need to look deep inside of yourself for that answer.

As a person who LOVES to eat I can relate! Best wishes Robert!! Maybe I should go walking with you when you return home!
Livermore Resident May 20, 2012 at 03:32 PM
Robert, soon there will be major changes in your weight....your life. This will inspire you to continue. This will be a hard journey, but always, always look at the end result. What you really want in life is certainly worth working for! You have so much ahead of you that you haven't experienced yet, and once you get a little taste of it, you will be eager to continue on this road. This will change your life! Embrace it, and enjoy all you have. You have this!!!
vicki May 21, 2012 at 06:27 AM
I wanna go! Maybe we can form a weekly, "Walking w/Robert" for when he returns.
Anonimo May 21, 2012 at 03:01 PM
this young man is not the only one with this problem... What is being done to avoid it? We should start with our homes, motivate ourselfs in creating activities that keep us active. In my country they close the streets on the weekends so people can run or use their bikes. Create programs that dont cost too much to be able to exercise... And find healthy food that is affordable. Tanya: I hope your brother knows that while there will always be mean, ignorant people in the world, most of us are glad he's getting help and trying to make his life better. Good luck and god bless him and your family. I hope that he is successful and can go on to live a great life.
