Patch Picks: Entertainment Labor Day Weekend and Beyond

Check out these local, community places for food and fun.

Attend the Historic Rail Fair 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sat., Sept. 3, Sun., Sept. 4, and Mon., Sept. 5 for a rail-load of fun at the East Bay Regional Park District and the Railroad Museum’s 11th annual Rail Fair event, to be held at Ardenwood Historic Farm, 34600 Ardenwood Blvd., Fremont. The fair will feature the 1889 Porter Tank steam locomotive and an 1890 steam porter engine “Ann Marie.” There will be steam train rides, hand car rides, narrow gauge speeder car rides, various rail displays, food, and children’s games. Free Parking. Admission to the fair is $8 adults, $6 seniors, $5 children. Just after Monday’s Labor Day festivities, visit Hacienda Crossings Stadium 20 & IMAX, 5000 Dublin Blvd., Dublin, for “Peter Gabriel:  New Blood Orchestra in 3D,” 7:30 p.m. Tues., Sept. 6, featuring the reinterpretations of  Gabriel’s classic hits as orchestral arrangements.  Tickets are on sale now. See the classic, “The Sting,” at 7 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 8 at the Vine Cinema and Alehouse, 1722 First St., Livermore. Starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford as cons arranging a clever sting. All seats $7.50. All food delivered to you in the auditorium. Call 925-447-2545 for more information.

See English band “Tears for Fears,” in concert, 5 p.m. for restaurant dinner or 6 p.m. for buffet, then 8:15 p.m. outdoor concert Thurs., Sept. 8, at the Wente Vineyards Restaurant and Event Center, 5050 Arroyo Rd., Livermore. Seating is in a terraced amphitheater surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Tickets are available at about 40 percent off for dinner and a show. Tickets, $111-$153 (reg. $185-$255). Visit a museum. The Sunol Old Green Barn Visitor Center, located in the old Geary barn (1895 Geary Rd.), Sunol, which dates to 1895, exhibits pioneering farm equipment, fossils, and other interactive collections. A floor-mounted topographic relief of the 6,000 acres that make up Sunol, and information about the cultural and natural history of Sunol can be explored 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. each weekend.
