Star of Race for Parks Is New Sycamore Grove Trail

Get out and run for a cause in Livermore Area Recreation and Park District's inaugural 'Run for the Parks.'

Take advantage of warmer weather, great springtime views and colorful
blossoming flowers while supporting local parks and getting in shape Sunday.

The is hosting a   that will help residents give back to community parks while enjoying a day outdoors.

The event will take place at in Livermore and features a new trail.

Sunday’s event will feature three options: a 10K run, a 5K walk and run, and a kids one-mile fun run.

Race-day registration and check-in will begin at 7 a.m., with the
5K and 10K at 8:30 and the kids’ fun run at 10:30 a.m.

The 10 K run offers great views, officials said. The out and back course has paved and unpaved LARPD trails through Livermore's wine country and Holdener Park.

The 5K walk and run is a flat loop course on paved and unpaved trails in Sycamore Grove Park, where runners go through open fields. 

The kids one-mile fun run, for age 12 and younger, is on an unpaved trail in Sycamore Grove Park. Kids will run through the sycamore trees and back, with a view of creek and hopefully, wildlife.

Male and female 5K and 10K winners will receive trophies, as well as winners in the masters division, age 45 and older.

The top three finishers in each age category will receive medals and all kids fun run finishers will receive a ribbon.

Age category breakdown: 14 to 19; 20 to 29; 30 to 39; 40 to 49; 50 to 59; 60 to 69; and 70 and older.

All entrants will receive the “historic” commemorative T-shirt, refreshments and snacks.

Save money by preregistering or bringing the family. The cost for preregistered 5K and 10K runners is $30 per person, or $25 each for families of four or more.

Race day fees will be $35 for the 5K or 10K and $10 for the kids fun run.

Money raised benefits the park district, officials said.
