Hooking Kids on Fitness at the Hook and Ladder Run

5th annual event raised money for Livermore area charities.

Written by Beatrice Karnes

Many parents struggle with tearing kids away from electronics and getting them outside for fresh air and exercise.

A great event was held last weekend that included kids and encourages a healthy lifestyle. The Livermore-Pleasanton Firefighters Foundation held its 5th Annual Hook and Ladder Run last Sunday, June 2, at Wente Vineyards.

The event featured a 10K Run, 5K Run/Walk, and a Kids 1 Mile Fun Run. While it’s just in its 5th year, the popular event “sold out” in advance with no registrations allowed on race day. Some 1,600 participants raced, including 300 children.

It was the start of the Kids Fun Run that got hearts racing—a Calstar helicopter did a flyover to signal the start.

The charity event raised $35,000. Reggie Bell, Livermore-Pleasanton Firefighters Foundation Secretary, says the money will be put to good use, “Our foundation was designed to help sick, injured or fallen firefighters, police, EMS personnel, burn victims and local charities, The Taylor Family Foundation, Open Heart Kitchen, Relay for Life and others. The money is distributed on an as needed basis and upon request from other foundations or agencies that need our assistance for their members.”
