The seminar on Thursday, May 24th at LARPD went very well! Approximately 75 women/girls attended. Sensei Kym Rock talked about the importance of a program like this, especially in light of the increased violence in our society. She briefly mentioned the tragic case of Sierra Lamar and the importance of not just self-defense skills, but self defense mindset skills — such as not walking home alone, texting while walking to your car, parking far away in a dark and secluded place, etc. She explained that Fight Like a Girl is mindset — a sense of empowerment that can be applied daily to everyday decisions. Participants learned a series of simple, yet effective self-defense escape techniques which they practiced on our instructors and volunteers.
