Great Escape: Embrace Spring in the San Francisco Marketplace

Visit several San Francisco markets for quality selections of fresh salsa, free samples, seasonal squash and much more.

The Ferry Building, 1 Ferry Building, San Francisco, sits along the city’s waterfront and houses an artisan food community that showcases local producers of award-winning food and wine. As the weather warms, catch any BART line or take a drive to San Francisco and enjoy the farmers’ markets and a diverse cultural community. 

The Ferry Building plaza is an open-air marketplace for Ferry Plaza (California Certified) Farmers' Market , managed by the nonprofit Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA). The market is open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays. The market offers regionally-grown vegetables, fruits, flowers, herbs, meats and eggs, many of which are certified organic. Fresh from the financial district, the San Francisco Farmers’ Market at Crocker Galleria, 50 Post St., is open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. every Thursday year around, and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesdays from June 7 to Sept. 27. The Alemany Farmers Market, 100 Alemany Blvd., San Francisco, was founded in 1943. Its permanent home on Alemany Boulevard is known as the “people’s market.” The market operates rain or shine, dawn to dusk every Saturday.
