Live More, Save More: Thanksgiving Savings!

Thanksgiving is approaching and here are some tips to help reduce your energy use not only then, but as we approach winter as well.

  • While cooking the turkey on Thanksgiving, just throw in other things to be baked as well. You could ditch the second oven, and the oven would already be hot to make cookies, biscuits, and other warm delights.
  • Depending on the weather, rather than turn on the heat, simply leave the oven door open to let the hot air warm the rooms. Or, to cool, opening the windows are a great alternative. Opening windows instead of using the fan is another suggestion to let the hot air/steam out of the kitchen!
  • When boiling those potatoes, cover the lid if possible. It will not only cook faster by locking in all that steam and pressure, but it will reduce your energy use on the stoves.
  • Try to cook the food right after one another to avoid warming up appliances all over again.
  • Before putting food in the fridge until dinner, allow it cool off to room temperature first. Placing hotter items in the fridge causes it to work harder to cool it, and will take longer to cool.
Stay tuned for more tips to follow as Thanksgiving approaches...
