Dentists Against Cancer Donate $20,000 to ValleyCare’s Women In Need Fund

PleasantonCA -- ValleyCare Charitable Foundation recently received a $20,000 donation for the “Women in Need” fund.  The sizable donation came from the recent Tri-Valley Memorial Golf Tournament sponsored by Dentists Against Cancer.

Drs. Jeff Bueno and Tom Sellick founded Dentists Against Cancer in memory of their mothers, Barbara Bueno and Margaret Sellick, both of whom passed away following courageous battles with breast cancer.  They wanted to make a difference in the Tri-Valley and in 2009 started Dentists Against Cancer, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to help women battling breast cancer.

The “Women in Need" fund began in 2010 with funding from this same golf tournament and allows ValleyCare to provide financial assistance tounderinsured and underprivileged women in need of a diagnostic mammogram if their screening mammograms show area(s) of concern.  It also can help defer costs for wigs, post surgical compression sleeves, bras and swimsuits for breast for breast cancer patients during and after treatment.

With one in eight women being diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S., regular, screening mammograms are time-tested exams capable of detecting cancer in its earliest stages --up to two years before a woman might feel a lump. Since a woman's risk for breast cancer increases with age, experts recommend a mammogram every one to two years for women ages 40 and older.

"We are very pleased ValleyCare is able to partner with community members such as Dentists Against Cancer and provide assistance like this to women in our area," says ValleyCare CEO Marcy Feit.
