LIVERMORE, CA -- The ValleyCare Health System Auxiliary, which annually awards scholarships to area high school seniors planning to enter the health care field, recently named the 2012 winners. Due to the overwhelming number of applications, two additional $4000 awards were funded by the ValleyCare Medical Staff. The Auxiliary conferred a total of six $4,000 and two $1,000 scholarships at the Auxiliary’s annual Appreciation Luncheon in May.
Allison Lindblom from Foothill High and Daniel Lanci from Livermore High each received $1,000 scholarships. Daniel plans to attend Las Positas College and transfer to UC Berkeley to study oncology; and Allison will attend Diablo Valley College to study nursing.
The four students receiving the Auxiliary’s $4000 scholarships are: Trevor Malone and Cassandra McDiarmid from Granada High; Ki Wan (Roy) Park from Dougherty High and Aishwarya Yenepalli from Amador High. Trevor plans to attend UC San Diego studying biology for a bio-medicine career; Cassandra will study at UCLA with the long term goal of being an OB/GYN; Roy will go to UC Berkeley majoring in bioengineering with the goal of becoming a physician; and Aishwarya will attend Case Reserve University studying neuroscience.
The two $4000 scholarships funded by the ValleyCare Medical Staff were awarded to Angela Duvalyan of Amador High and Henian (Mike) Zhu from Dougherty High School. Angela will study at UC Berkeley and eventually would like to be a pediatrician; and Mike plans to attend Duke University studying medicine.
Students awarded scholarships receive funds on an annual basis. In order to continue receiving the scholarship funds, students must maintain their eligibility by remaining full-time students studying course work leading to a career in the medical field. They must have continuous enrollment at the same college or university and maintain “C” or better grade point average.
The ValleyCare Auxiliary raises funds for these scholarships through sales at their gift shop in the lobby at ValleyCare Medical Center and the Thrift Shop, located in downtown Livermore.
