HBO is filming a battle scene for the production of "Hemingway and Gellhorn" in Livermore. The shooting will take place this month in a field north of town. Other locations are the old train station in Oakland and warehouses in San Francisco.
The story line covers the relationship of Ernest Hemingway and Martha Gellhorn, both war correspondents during the Spanish Civil War and World War II.
Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman play the starring roles. Other notables are Tony Shalhoub and David Strathairn.
Martha Gellhorn inspired Hemingway to write "For Whom the Bell Tolls."
Director/ Screenwriter Philip Kaufman won awards for "The Right Stuff" and "The Unbearable Lightness of Being." He also collaborated with George Lucas on the Indiana Jones project.
