Sunken Gardens Skate Park Vandalized

Park district staff estimate repairs and site clean up to cost $6,000.

Here's information provided by the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District:

Staff for the were alerted to vandalism on the morning of Wednesday, July 13, at , located at 3800 Pacific Ave.

Vandalism to the facility included the cutting down of six trees, which were thrown into the skate bowl. Graffiti was painted on the skating surface and concrete sidewalk. Other vandalism included food products poured into the drinking fountain on three benches and damage to a trash can. LARPD park staff estimates the cost to repair and clean up the site at $6,000.

Several years ago, the district tried to provide skate park users with a portable toilet, however, it and the wooden enclosure were burned down. A similar occurrence happened at several weeks ago.

Senseless incidents such as these not only deprive the public of recreational facilities and park trees, it also places a strain on the district’s limited finances, which could otherwise be used on other facilities and programs.

These incidents also put a spotlight on the importance of vigilance by park users and park neighbors who can help keep parks safe and in good condition by reporting suspicious behavior to the (9-1-1 or, from cell phones, 925-371-4987 for emergencies or 925-371-4900 for non-emergencies). Park maintenance issues can be reported to LARPD at 925-960-2440.
