Randy Sonnenberg Named Livermore Interim Police Chief

With the recent retirement of Chief Steve Sweeney, the City of Livermore announced an interim police chief to lead the department on Wednesday.

Former Foster City Police Chief Randy Sonnenberg has been appointed to the position. Sonnenberg served 30 years with the Foster City department before retiring in 2004.

“Chief Sonnenberg will do an excellent job during his time as the interim Chief. We will draw on his expertise and leadership over the next few months," Livermore city manager Marc Roberts said. "Chief Sonnenberg makes a fine addition to an already outstanding Police Department.”

In a press release, the city said Sonnenberg has temporarily relocated to Livermore so he can give his complete access to the community and the police department.

Sonnenberg is currently a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the California Police Chiefs Association. He is also a mentor and coach and is a sought after speaker with police departments in California, the city said.
